On221 Exclusive: Lil Wayne Live in Richmond, VA

Posted by Des on January 27, 2008

a capella freestyle

I was at the first show Lil Wayne did as soon as he left court on Friday, Jan. 25. The video shows his opening statement when he first stepped on stage. He address his “disloyal” friends and throws his jacket in his DJ/friend, Taz Po’s face.

As soon as Weezy was done being charged with four felonies in Arizona, he chartered a private plane especially for his show at the Landmark Theater. The event shed light on the why he may be in so much trouble and disloyalty in his clique; probably about his legal issues? The net is speculating about a lot of things but take it from someone who was actually in there. He did not get booed off the stage. He wasn’t too high to perform. Continue for the official full detailed story from my own eyes.

Wayne walks off stage, not booed.

Des–RICHMOND,Va.–Uncertainty was in the air Friday, Jan. 25, as a sold-out crowd lined up around the corner of the Landmark Theater to see Lil Wayne perform. Fans flew in from as far as Boston to see the self proclaimed “best rapper alive” in-person.

The crowd’s uncertainty was well-understood as Lil Wayne was in an Arizona Court Friday morning and charged with possession of a narcotic for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and misconduct involving a weapon.

The show started shortly after 7 p.m. and the crowd enjoyed opening acts such as Lano & K.I.M. and Duck Cez introduced by hosts, Honey B and Fat Kat.

After an intermission the crowd was expecting to see Lil Wayne, only to see more opening acts. All remaining opening acts, including New York Rapper, Grafh, were replied with the crowd’s boos.

It was nearly 10 p.m. and the crowd grew impatient. Their chants of “Weezy” went unanswered. DJ Lonnie B played dance songs in an attempt to sustain the crowd’s energy but they do little good.

At 11:30, the hosts finally returned after letting Lonnie B and various others control the well-frustrated crowd. Honey B announced that Lil Wayne has arrived.

“He just got out of jail and ya’ll ain’t loud enough,” Fat Kat said, causing an eruption by the crowd who waited nearly five hours for Lil Wayne.

Fifteen minutes went by and still no site of Lil Wayne. The crowd’s frustration reached it’s peak when an audience member threw a water bottle on stage.

After another 15 minutes of various music the crowd began to boo. It was midnight, six hours after the doors opened, and the crowd has yet the headliner.

No sooner than the last fan got out their last “boo” Lil Wayne finally hits the stage with his entourage in a hooded-leather jacket, blue jeans with red bandanna hanging from his rear waistline, thermal shirt. The creator of the term, “bling-bling” was also wearing a very large diamond ring, two necklaces and diamond studded teeth.

With his entourage behind him, Wayne started off with an unusually mellow performance of his song “Money on my Mind” from 2005’s “The Carter 2.”

“I’m not the happiest man right now,” Wayne explained. “When your friends turn their back on you…and tell you they gonna be there for you, and then when you get to that point, mother fucker end up looking like a mother fucker!” He continued, performing “D Boy” and “Duffle Bag Boy,” lacking the energy and animation he is well known for.

“After today, if you never see me again, remember that you saw greatness,” he tells the crowd. There is a clear animosity he holds for members of his own entourage. Members of the audience speculate as Wayne paces on the stage barely reciting the words to his own songs.

As he drags through a few more songs, Wayne stops and exchanges words with the DJ, Taz Po–whom he seems particularly upset with.

The women in the audience scream as Wayne takes his shirt off revealing a torso full of tattoos.

“I don’t need any of them…as long as I got ya’ll,” Wayne says in disgust looking at his entourage.”On the count of three say Fuck you! 1-2-3.” “Fuck you!” the crowd replied. (video)

After “Hustler Music,” Wayne had another exchange of words with Po and left the stage. Po followed behind.

Five minutes go by and the crowd’s frustration was repeated as they, once again, began to boo.

Wayne returned to the stage, as the crowd roared, and redelivered a much more energetic performance of “Money on my Mind.” The crowd recognized the change in demeanor and hung on to every word as Wayne starts his set all over again.

“I ain’t [nothing] without ya’ll!” Wayne said. It seems as though the five-minutes away from the stage was all he needed to come back and make the show worth waiting for.

Wayne performed his verse from Swizz Beatz’s “It’s Me Snitches” with the energy expected of him as he rapped his verse with the crowd. He incorporated the audience a lot throughout the remainder of the show as he struck poses for audience photos on the song “Take a Picture.”

The audience was pleasantly shocked to hear the beat to Soulja Boy’s #1 hit record, “Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)” as Wayne did the infectious dance.

“I got my own dance,” Wayne said before Po played the beat to Juvenile’s “Back That Thang Up.”"It’s called the wam!” He held his arms out and thrusted his hips forward to the beat. The ladies in attendance loved it and it showed in their applause.

After performing “Hot Girl,” Wayne tied his red bandanna around his head and entered a more serious mood while he performed “The Block is Hot.” The lyrics from that song and “Hustler Music” seemed to resonate his mood from earlier in the performance as he angrily recited the lyrics “Why the [hell] is you trippin’?” to Taz Po. “You [can] leave after this show and never come back again!”

After performing “I feel Like Dying,” he returned to his lighter music when he said, “All the ugly ladies be quiet.” From all of the screams, you’d think all the women were as beautiful as Beyonce.

Wayne sat down with a guitar and strummed the strings to “Prostitute Flange” and continued into “Leather So Soft.” He acknowledged those in the balcony changing the lyrics to, “Shout out to all of my people up in the nose bleeds.”

Wayne actually thanked Taz Po for giving him his guitar named Taylor. It seemed as though he had put he and Po’s differences to the side on “Go DJ” when he said, “When I say Taz, you say Po. Taz!” “Po!” the audience replied. Wayne even showed respect to Virginia when replaced the “D-J” in the chorus to
“V-A.”

“Don’t ya’ll hate gossip?” Wayne asked. The crowd answered in cheers as he performed “Gossip” from his upcoming album, “The Carter 3.” The crowd was standing on their seats and shouting in excitement.

The night came to a close after Lil Wayne performed the #1 song on XXL magazine’s “77 Best Weezy verses of 2007,” “We Takin’ Ova,” and took a bow–or so everyone though before Wayne yelled, “Phych!”

Wayne performed his part on “Championship Pop Bottles” three times as the crowd hung on to every word.

“I ain’t [nothing] without you so make noise for what you created,” Wayne said. The crowd applauded louder than any other time that night.

Wayne showed his love for his fans as he comically mouthed the lyrics to “And I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. “Sexual chocolate has left the building,” he said, as his assistant put a zebra-striped full length coat on him.

Wayne dropped the coat and ran back to the front of the stage and mouthed Houston’s final note on the song. He took his shoes off, put back on the coat, and walked off stage.

With all of his legal troubles, Wayne managed to fly straight from Phoenix directly to the Landmark Theater’s stage and give the fans a show worth the wait.
