Lil Wayne Beats G-Unit in their first week
Posted by Des on July 9, 2008
Lil Wayne managed to move another 156k of “Tha Carter 3″ coming at number one on the Billboard Top 200. Even with a 25 percent drop, this puts “C3″ at 1.7 million sold since debuting four weeks ago. Maybe that “A Millie” abomination helped?
The ever-so-great “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay pushed out 149k for the number two spot with Disney’s/Jonas Brothers “Camp Rock” follows in third with 116k moved.
In a surprising –yet not so surprising– turn of events, G-Unit’s “Terminate on Sight” only scanned 102k coming in at number four. That’s two thirds less than their 2003 debut, “Beg For Mercy,” selling 377k its first week.
I thought the album was pretty good. It is a very ‘hood-album with plenty of songs to play with the volume on max as you cruise the streets of Jamaica, Queens –as I did last week– or pretend to if you’re out of town –like I did this week.
Tony Yayo shines on the album as if he’s making up for missing “Beg For Mercy.” Yayo actually exhibits a lot of charisma in his verses and stands out on most tracks. Though, 50 still is the “boss,” Yayo’s role as enforcer doesn’t go unnoticed.

The music industry is very fickle……The fans build you up then break you down. What do you expect? Tony Yayo hasn’t released a solo project in three years since “Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon”. Lloyd Banks buzz went cold with “Rotten Apple” when he sold that horrible 322,000 in 2006, and even 50 flopped selling a million and change with “Curtis”. They sold 102,000 copies, yet they were supposed to move 700,000? WTF 50? Don’t blame Interscope this time because that is what you said about Curtis. This is the result of being the biggest bullies in the industry to me. I know the people liked it, but why didn’t they buy the record. G-Unit is about to lost another fan. How could you let Plies sell more in his first week, with his competition being Lil’ Wayne four weeks ago?
