Lil Wayne Mad Magazine Cover

Posted by Des on November 12, 2008

lil-wayne-mad-tv-cover

“The rise and fall of a rap star?” I wonder how that article is going to read? Has Lil Wayne really fallen off? I think the quality of his material has taken a lean, if you know what I mean. I think it will be interesting to see what Mad Magazine, of all publications, has to say about or favorite syrup -sipper.

Hoopz King Magazine Cover

Posted by Des on August 19, 2008

It’s funny how one reality show can spawn so many King mag covers. What’s even funnier is that I checked out the Sneakerboxx (because I knew lik dot would enjoy this) and, sure enough, he had it plastered up as the very first post. Ha, shouts to dot.

T.I. Foundation Magazine Cover

Posted by Des on August 5, 2008

T.I.P. covers the 8th issue of the world’s only mixtape magazine (click to enlarge). The issue has a good topic for an article in it; “Has hustle replaced talent?”

I think it has.

[Video] Barack Obama Responds to New Yorker Cover

Posted by Des on July 17, 2008

Obama responds to the tasteless “New Yorker” cover (left) which featured him in Muslim garb and his wife packing an AK-47 with an American flag burning in the oval office. The Democratic Presidential hopeful appeared on Larry King the other night and spoke on this, among other things. I think he handled it well.

Gisele Bundchen “in the flesh” on V Magazine Cover

Posted by Des on July 16, 2008

Generally, I can care less for mainstream models but Gisele has been part of a trend that I’ve noticed lately. I first noticed her today actually in GQ magazine. I had a crazy-long day so I had some time to peruse the men’s magazine. What sparked my interest is that she was bottomless in a few of the pics. They were tasteful pics but, is it me, or is topless losing it’s edge? Black men’s publications always showcase the derriere, but it’s rare to see this in the mainstream but here she is.

Granted, Gisele is no Buffy the Body, but still. She has a few pics in this issue V magazine where the rear seems to be the focus of the shot. I don’t have a problem with it. It just makes me think of that scene in Harold and Kumar 2 –don’t ask why I saw that terrible movie– when they were at the bottomless party. Anyway, Bundchen is the highest paid model in the world so i guess she can pose anyway she wants.

Also, I ask this question to all men, are slim chicks back in style? I already have my opinion.

Time Magazine Names Lil Wayne “Best Rapper Alive”

Posted by Des on July 14, 2008

Now, Time Magazine is not the most hip-hop of all publications, but their words hold weight. They have a whole piece on Lil Wayne –mainly about his rise to success– that is condescending at times but it still praises the ‘Nawleanean’ (emphasis on the ‘lean’). Here’s an excerpt. Oh, and I laughed my ass off when they described the Hot Boyz as “‘N Sync with shivs.”

Over four years, he morphed from a mediocre rapper with a thuggish point of view into a savant who merges sex, drugs and politics with a sneaky intellect, a freakish knowledge of pop culture and a voice out of the Delta. Whether Wayne is, as he claims, the “best rapper alive” is no longer even debated in hip-hop or commercial circles…”

They really speak highly of him. Click here to read full article.

Ebony “Black Cool” Covers

Posted by Des on July 6, 2008

I saw the Jay-Z one but I liked the concept of Ebony’s “Black Cool” August issue even more after seeing the other seven covers at the PR Mami’s spot, also featuring Billie D. Williams, Denzel Washington, and Prince. Now, who’s cooler? Barack or Jay?
